Deacons & Acolytes
The primary role of the Deacons and Acolytes are to assist the priest in the celebration of the Holy Badarak. This is done through specific actions and by setting an example to the congregation by active participation in the Holy Badarak by looking alert and sitting or standing at the appropriate times.
Deacons & Acolytes carry the cross, the processional candle(s), hold the book for the priest celebrant when he is not at the altar, carry the incense and censer, present the bread, wine to the priest during the preparation of the Gifts, wash the hands of the priest, assist the priest celebrant as necessary.
Deacons are on duty from the time they enter the sanctuary at the start of Holy Badarak until they finish cleanup after the end of Holy Badarak. During the Holy Badarak their duty station is the sanctuary, and a server may not leave the sanctuary except as directed by a priest, deacon or bodily necessity.
We are thankful for those that serve on our Holy Altar on Sunday and on special occasions. They are integral to the divine liturgy and play a key role in aiding our pastor which is leading the service.
The Armenian Apostolic Church at Hye Pointe has a Deacons’ and Holy Alter Servers’ Training Program. If you and your child are interested in enrolling him into the acolyte program, kindly inquire with Fr. Vart Gyozalyan by contacting the church at 978-372-9227.
